Aaliyah, Still Missing You

aaliyah

Exactly 10 years ago, the world lost one of it’s brightest, most talented stars. Her name was Aaliyah Dana Haughton and her music and legacy still live on. Although Aaliyah was discovered at a young age, she wasn’t able to take her talent further due to her tragic death in an airplane crash in 2001. Although it’s been 10 years since the world lost Aaliyah, her music lives on and has a special place in my heart. I’m constantly listening to her timeless music. Some of my favorites include “Turn the Page”, “At Your Best (You Are Love)” and “The One I Gave My Heart To.” Watch Aaliyah’s “Miss You” music video featuring a special Toni Braxton cameo after the cut.

Toni Braxton to join Georgia Music Hall of Fame

The Georgia Music Fall of Fame in Macon shut down this summer after years of poor attendance, but the entity’s lack of a physical structure hasn’t scotched the 33rd annual Georgia Music Hall of Fame Awards. The show, you know, must go on.

This year’s honorees include Toni Braxton, the singer turned reality show star; actor-director Kenny Leon, and vocal coach and music mentor Jan Smith, who counts Justin Bieber and Usher among her clients. Other honorees will be the group Mothers Finest and promoter Paul Cochran. Jazz cabaret star Judy Argo will be honored posthumously.

“We are excited to continue recognizing Georgia’s outstanding contributions to the music industry and will continue the awards show as we have done for 32 years,” said Dr. Bobbie Bailey, president of Friends of Georgia Music Festival, Inc. “Our first ceremony was in 1979 when Ray Charles and Bill Lowery were inducted.”

The event is planned for 8 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. It will air live on Georgia Public Broadcasting.

Tickets start at $50. www.cobbenergycentre.com, www.ticketmaster.com or call 1-800-745-3000.

Britney Spears “I Love Her”

BritneySpears

Many artists aspire to have a career like Britney Spears. Earlier this year, she released her seventh studio album, Femme Fatale, she’s currently on her seventh concert tour and recently she picked up two more MTV Video Music Award nominations for Best Pop Video and Best Choreography (that’s 28 total VMA noms!). Not a bad resume for someone that’s not even 30.

Yet, with so many artists wanting to emulate Spears, we wanted to know who inspires her. So when we sat down with Brit recently, she revealed which artists she admires.

To this day still, Madonna. I’m a huge fan of her,” Brit said about the pop queen, who she infamously shared a kiss with at the 2003 MTV VMAs and collaborated with on the hit song “Me Against the Music.”

But that’s not all. Britney used to un-break her heart listening to a little Toni Braxton. “I grew up listening to Toni Braxton,” Spears told us, “and now I think she has a reality show that she does. I love her.” (She’s right, Braxton stars with her sisters on “Braxton Family Values.”)

Britney’s love for divas doesn’t even end there – she’s also a big fan of Beyonce.

Anytime Beyonce performs, it’s a really big spectacle,” Britney said. “I’d love to see her perform. That would be fun.

Since Britney is such a huge fan of Beyonce, is there a chance we could see these girls collaborate?

That would be fun, that’s a good idea!Spears said.

Toni Braxton returned the love via twitter.

ToniBraxton: Hey @britneyspears thanks for the love doll! Congratulations on all of your success, I hear the tour is AMAZING! Xoxoxoxoxo :)

No Greater Love: RIP Amy Winehouse

Today the world lost a star. Her name was Amy Winehouse and she had to be one of the most talented singer/songwriters to take the stage in recent years. Winehouse was know for her stints in and out of rehab, punching a fan and her public display of intoxication. Although she was battling her inner demons, her music was still amazing.

London Ambulance Service were called by Cops to the scene on Saturday July 23rd 2011 shortly before 16.05hrs following reports that a body was found at the scene. Although there is no autopsy scheduled until tomorrow there is speculation of a drug overdose. Amy Winehouse was 27.

Our condolences go out to her family, friends, loved ones and her fans during this difficult time.
